This is a true story about a surprising discovery which resulted from recording a family history.

My father grew up in Iowa, as did both his parents. While recording his stories for our family history, my dad mentioned that his father had lived briefly in Cleveland as a young boy and had helped build a boat. Although he knew nothing else about this episode, that one sentence led us on a journey to Lake Erie. Amazingly, we found the nearly ninety-year-old boat still in use and well known throughout the area. Along the way we learned more about a fascinating chapter in our family's history.
